President: Tinubu has raised bar for politicians

Osinbajo, Sambo, Dogara, Kalu, govs honour APC leader

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has raised the bar for several politicians in the country. The President stated this while congratulating Tinubu on the occasion of his 65th birthday. In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari felicitated with Tinubu as he marks the birthday today.

“Buhari joined all members of the APC, political and business associates of the Asiwaju of Lagos, his friends and family, in celebrating another milestone in the life of Tinubu whom he described as a great leader,” Adesina stated.

The President noted that Tinubu’s foray into politics ushered in a better understanding of building consensus to achieve historical feats, like unseating an incumbent government. “As he turns 65 years, the President believes the Asiwaju raised the bar for many political leaders across the country as a two-term governor of Lagos State, and also bequeathed a style of leadership that completely altered the landscape of the commercial capital,” the President said.

While recalling his pleasant and intellectually enriching encounters with the Jagaban of Borgu Kingdom over the years, the President re-affirmed that the nation has benefitted a lot from the personal sacrifices, political experience and intellectual foresight of the APC chieftain, and still stands to gain more. Buhari prayed that the almighty God will grant Tinubu good health, longer life and more wisdom to serve his country and humanity.

Also speaking at the 9th Colloquium to mark Tinubu’s 65th birthday, Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, described Tinubu as an outstanding politician, great mobilizer, who is very good in planning and executing government policies. “Chief Bola Tinubu is an outstanding Yoruba politician of his generation. Tinubu has a knack for picking right people at the best of time. He is effective in conceiving and planning government policies.

Tinubu played great role in the transformation of Lagos State. Tinubu and his associates, Fashola, Osinbajo and now Ambode are the architects of the new Lagos. Lagos used to be one of the dirtiest states, but it is now one of the cleanest in Nigeria,” Buhari said.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode described Tinubu as a great Nigerian political product and a successful leader who not only mentored many leaders in the country, but laid the solid foundation for the sustained progress of the state. Ambode said the test of any successful leader all over the world was in the number of leaders such leaders created, and that using the globally accepted parameter, Tinubu without doubt, is a winner. Ambode said: “There is no doubt that the Asiwaju political dynasty is a made in Nigeria product.

The foundation laid and blueprints developed during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, which cuts across all sections of the state’s economy have actually simplified the process of governance till date. “His blueprint has continued to serve as a roadmap to achieving the Lagos of his and our dreams.

This same political product without doubt, traverses the Nigerian landscape and that is evident with the emergence of the APC at the centre in 2015. Asiwaju is a made-in-Nigeria product. We should make more products out of him.” At the event, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of Ondo State described Tinubu as a rare patriot whose contributions to human capacity is worthy of emulation.

According to him, Tinubu is an untiring leader who believes in pursuing a worthy course. Akeredolu urged every politician to emulate his exemplary sterling qualities of selfless service. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, described Tinubu as a leader, man of vision, and dogged fighter for democracy who has and continued to make invaluable contributions to democratic governance of Nigeria. The Speaker, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan, likened Tinubu with the proverbial elephant that cannot be described and argued that any attempt to describe him will amount to grave injustice. “He is undoubtedly one of the leading lights of our modern democracy.

I can only say this based on the part I have touched. I see him as someone who is demonstrating the attributes of a true leader. “He is not a regional leader. For the first time, an opposition party which was built on some blocks, including the great Asiwaju himself, succeeded in wrestling power from the hands of the ruling party,” Dogara said. The Speaker prayed for Tinubu to age gracefully and in good health, so that “some of us who have come to see him as a mentor will continue to learn more and drink from the fountain of his wisdom.”
