Former Head of Service of the Federation (HoS), Mrs. Ama Pepple, has given a damming verdict on the Service Compact with All Nigerians (SERVICOM), saying it has not effectively delivered on its mandates as an agency.
The SERVICOM office was set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004 to address the epileptic service delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government.
Pepple stated this yesterday at the opening of a two-day National Policy Dialogue on Service Delivery with the theme: “Efficient and Effective Service Delivery in Governance: Imperative for Driving the Change Agenda”, held at the State House Conference Centre Abuja.
The former Head of Service explained that despite the current administration’s change agenda and it’s determination to do things differently, files were still missing with others still being piled up in one office. She said other several other important files are kept untreated.
Amma Pepple lamented that it was worrisome that indiscipline, corruption and inefficiency still looms large throughout the public service.
The former HoS noted that despite efforts by the Obasanjo administration to raise the standard of service delivery in the public service to the citizenry, the public service continues to get knocks and criticism.
Yesterday’s event was organized by SERVICOM Office which is under the supervision of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Pepple, who also said that that prompt service deliver was the right of every Nigerian, explained that the only government policy that would have redeemed the damaged reputation of the public service was SERVICOM but has failed.
