The people of Badagry are set to shower encomiums on HRH Whenu Aholu Toyi 1, the Akran of Badagry, as he marks the 40th anniversary as the king of the ancient city. Visiting the ancient city, New Telegraph observed that, the town is lit up, bulks of native attire for the celebration have been ordered for houses and streets are pasted with banners to celebrate and show loyalty to their well-aged monarch with visiting friends and family members.
The chairman of the planning committee Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, member Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Badagry Constituency 1, spoke with New Telegraph on the epoch celebration and sundry issues.
The celebration, which would be a five-day programme, would start from April 19, Wednesday to April 23, Sunday. According to the chairman, they have several events in preparation for the event, which include novelty match, traditional prayers, royal music concert, interdenominational service and Juma’at service.
It would also include conferment of chieftaincy tittles on important personalities, foundation laying of a public library to aid research and historic engagements by pupils when they come to the Badagry palace for excursion, e.t.c. The celebration would have in attendance crème de la crème of the society like former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and some foreigners.
“We expect many of our people coming in from other areas to join us in the celebration under the chairmanship of former Lagos State Governor and All Progressive Con- (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with top musicians billed to perform for the day,” the legislator said. On developments in Badagry, the legislator stated that the new technology used to discover oil in their domain is a good thing and to their advantage. “We are also expecting a gigantic project in terms of seaport, which will also make Badagry economically viable.
You can see what is happening in Apapa about congestion. In terms of tourism, Badagry is there with the first storey building, where Christianity first started and all the museums.” He also noted that rural electrification projects are going on in various part of the ancient city.
“We have Laspark here, VIP chalets to host members of the Lagos State Assembly and the Executive whenever the need arises,” he boasted. On local government areas in the state, he noted that it is good to showcase the difference in politics and economy.

Bola Tinubu much tension while predicting winning numbers. “It is a game that put one in total confusion of either winthought of the idea of why a state as big as Lagos should have only 20 Local Governments to about 18 million people. You can see the difference in the lives of the people now that we have 37 additional LCDAs.
Formerly, people from far away Olorunda will be coming to Badagry here unlike when you see the number of LGs in Kano, and some other states that do not even have as much population as Alimosho Local Government alone. What I think our people need to do is to give support to this present government and the party so that development can go round.”
He believes APC will definitely sweep the upcoming local council polls because there is work on ground to show for excellent performance
